Cue the broken record but I'm just going to say it anyway. Being a blogger is an ODD thing. A few months ago I booked a flight and hotel room for a July stay in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, a place I had never heard of.
Why did I do that?
Oh, because Helene asked me to be her plus one at Taylor's wedding.
Helene asked, and I said, SURE WHY THE HELL NOT.
Just like when she asked if I wanted to go to Tomorrowworld... SURE WHY THE HELL NOT!
Why would I not say yes to that? Oh, I don't know, maybe because meeting people over the internet is similar to meeting a man next to his white van who just told you he has hundreds of pounds of candy onboard --- or, perhaps in my situation, he would tell me he had thin curst, extra sauce pizza hut onboard.
Or is it not actually weird at all??
I met CB online.
I met Veenie online through a shelter's Facebook page.
I met Helene online.
Is it really
that weird, to meet people online anymore? I'm not sure that it is. Still though, there is an odd sense of embarrassment when I've told people where I'm headed this weekend. "
Oh so I'm going to a wedding for someone I've never met but feel like I know everything about it. No prob, it's casual, don't worry yourself about it."
Like most of you, I love the internet. I do find it somewhat comical though when you see a friend you haven't seen in YEARS, and your catch-up time is non-existent because you already follow every move they make on Facebook, Twitter, Snap and Instagram.
Convo with a friend I haven't seen in 10 years:
Friend: "We got a new puppy!"
Me: "I know I saw!"
Friend: "We just got back from Cabo"
Me: "I know I saw!"
Friend: "Bill got a promotion"
Me: "I know I saw!"
Friend: "We had a cheeseburger three Tuesdays ago!"
Me: "I know I saw!"
Friend: "We had a baby"
Me: "I know I saw!"
Friend: "I changed my instagram handle"
Me: "I know I saw!"
etc. etc. etc.
So, ipso facto: I've decided going to a wedding as Helene's plus one, to celebrate Taylor whom I've never met and her soon to be husband whom I've never met is not weird, and in fact, is quite normal for 2016.
What is weird is that I was a little (very) bummed when I heard Harlow wasn't coming and I would not get to meet him, nor get an instagram photo. You probably don't know this, but
I interviewed Harlow several years ago. NBD.
Speaking of
Instagram and
Snapchat... you should FOR SURE be following along with us on this one. I meet Helene at the Denver airport at 7am on Saturday morning... let the fun begin!
SO--- do tell.....
Have you become IRL friends with another blogger?
Have you attended an internet friend's wedding?
What's the craziest thing you've ever done with someone you met on the internet? (Tinder excluded because I need
coffee vodka before reading those kinds of stories)
