I'll give you a moment to go get a napkin and wipe the drool off your face.
When I was a little girl, my Dad used to take me to Krispy Kreme before the sun even came up on Saturday mornings. I'd watch the conveyor belt-o-doughnuts push out rows of beautifully glazed, ready to devour goodness. I think I had as much fun watching the behind the scenes process with my Dad, as I did actually eating the doughnut. Since my Dad passed away, Krispy Kreme and their glass window that overlooked the doughnut making process, holds a soft spot in my heart.

Krispy Kreme just celebrated its 78th birthday in the US on July 10th, where they offered one dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 78 cents, with the purchase of a dozen doughnuts of any variety at regular price. This included Krispy Kreme's festive Birthday Cake Batter Doughnut, pictured above.
Their actual birthday though, is today, July 13th! Krispy Kreme first arrived in the US on July 13, 1937 in North Carolina. Countries celebrating the 78 cent deal on July 13 include Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Did you miss the deal on Friday? You're not too late! You can still celebrate Krispy Kreme's 78th birthday with a Birthday Cake Batter Doughnut -- the yellow frosted doughnut posted above, covered in bright confetti sprinkles and filled with kreme and cake batter filling-- or a Krispy Kreme Cake Batter Chiller -- that creamy cupcake flavored heavenly concoction shown above, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. Both are available through August 30th!

Oh my word. First of all, happiest of birthdays to Krispy Kreme. I actually went to my very first Krispy Kreme store this weekend! They don't have them around where I live, but we were on a road trip and my fiance insisted we make a stop. I regret nothing. The mini-factory was a highlight of our trip, but who am I kidding? The birthday cake batter doughnut was an even bigger highlight. I didn't get one of those chillers, but now I totally regret that. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYou are evil! not only is the closest Krispy Kreme an hour away, but I'm on a low carb diet. So maybe its a good thing the nearest one is so far away.
ReplyDeleteThankfully our paper sales rep just brought us 2 dozen Krispy Kremes this morning so I'm only slightly jealous. They're glazed... I'm a GO BIG OR GO HOME type of girl when it comes to donuts, I would have loved to have that shake or donut with toppings but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! :) (I'll just shove the donuts in my own mouth) ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me! Wow, those look so good. We had a KK just down the road from us in VA (Oh, that "fresh now" sign! ah!) but the one here is a bit of a distance and out of the way. I may need to find a reason to go out that direction today after this.
ReplyDeleteQuinn and I always go in costume on Halloween to get free donuts. Then I get coffee and she gets chocolate milk. I love it and she loves seeing how the donuts are made.
ReplyDeleteOHHHH I want a donut now! That birthday cake one looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteOH MY YUM! Now I really want a donut. I might need to take a trip to the other side of town to get me some KK donuts!
ReplyDeleteMan I miss KK donut. There donuts are the best.

why are you doing this to me on a monday? AHH this looks so good. if i get one today i blame you.
ReplyDeleteGoing to sound stupid here, but Krispy Kreme isn't that big of a deal here in Northern California. We have one somewhere near my house and I think I have been there once.
ReplyDeleteWhyyyyyy?!?!?! This is torture. There is a krispy kreme in DC, but obvi that's too far away. There aren't many around here at all, and Dunkin Donuts doesn't even begin to comapre.
ReplyDeleteThat was torture, but I loved every second of it! I'm so bummed I missed out on .78 Krispy Kreme Friday! Shame on me. I should have made the time to go by there!
ReplyDeleteHmm I had no idea KK had milkshakes!!
ReplyDeleteNow I want to pop around to the servo and get some nice Krispy Kreme donuts
ReplyDeleteSo not fair!! KK is special for my husband and I because it's the first place we went on a "blind" date...but now we don't live near any Krispy Kreme stores so we can't run in to celebrate special occasions there anymore. BOOOO!
ReplyDeleteYou were right, I should have skipped this post. We don't actually have an Krispy Kremes here which is such a sad, sad thing...
