March Is For Puppies
What is it about March that screams... bring home a new puppy?!
Or, if your name is Sarah Webb, what is it about every second of every day that says... bring home a new puppyyyyyy! Some people can't resist chocolate, I can't resist puppies.
I'm like the Ickey Woods of puppies, "Whoooooo gonna get some pupppies today. Get some puppies, get some puppies, get some puppies.... WHOOOOOO!"
If you didn't get any of that last part, I'm not sure that we were destined to be friends. You will probably find me very annoying. WHOOOOOOO!
Snowflake, or who you may better know as Veenie, became a member of our family on March 3rd, 2013. I fell in love with her at an adoption event hosted by Paws in the City. Here is her adoption picture. I'm still fascinated and highly interested in hearing how they managed to get her to sit still for this photo.
I thought it would be fun to do some very light google research on Veenie, to see what I could find. It turns out Veenie was on a local radio station talk show before I got to her... such a little celebrity! Thank goodness no one adopted her, she was destined to be all mine!
As you can read above, and as I learned only after doing this research, Veenie's family surrendered her to Dallas Animal Services when they decided they didn't have time for a puppy.
Veenie's First Day Home - March 3, 2013
That news broke my heart into a trillion pieces. Their loss, because this little baby is the sweetest, most affectionate puppy who ever lived. She is crazy, yes... but you will love her from the moment she gives you that first face lick at 6am on Saturday morning.
MoooooooM... DOG PARK JUST OPENED. WAKE UP, WAKE UP!
A Few of Veenie's Favorite Things Include
- Licking inside your ear when you aren't paying attention
-Face licks
-Fetching tennis balls, then returning them just out of your immediate reach
-Pretending she isn't aware of what personal space is
-Staring at you from the shower ledge
-Humans with a pulse
(unless you're riding a bike, then she does not enjoy you)
-5:35pm Monday - Friday
-Belly rubs from kiddos
-Her mama, of course
Then there is the man of the family, General Neyland.
General came into my life March 12, 2009, just a couple of months after I graduated from Tennessee. I adopted this sweet beagle, at the time named "Toby", when he was 1 year old from Young Williams Animal Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Gee's First Day Home - March 12, 2009
I don't have any "pre-Sarah" ownership history on Gee, but there has certainly been a lot of change between 2009 General and 2015 General.
2009 General ate all my shoes, brushes and even dining room table legs. 2009 General didn't snuggle, or sleep under the sheets pressed right up against you. 2009 General didn't stay right by your side, protecting you from the danger of the other doggies at the dog park.
2015 Gee is lazy, easy-going and craves uninterrupted snuggle sessions. I say uninterrupted, because if you interrupt a snuggle session, you will make him very angry, and you won't like him when he's angry. Just ask Veenie....
A Few of Gee's Favorite Things Include
In this order
-Squirrels
-Food
-Snuggling under the covers
-Standing on Stumps
-Anyone/Anything that is not Veenie
I love you two to the moon and back. You are my best friends and you've made me the luckiest dog mom in the whole world. You two snuggled me through the loneliest times I can ever remember, making me feel special and loved. You give me purpose, a feeling that I never would have understood if I had never met you guys. You are two of the most special things in my life, and I would move heaven and hearth to keep you both safe and healthy.
There is a good boy and a good girl that will be receiving all of the beggin strips and belly rubs tonight..... aaaand maybe even some face licks and uninterrupted snuggling if you play your cards right.
Oh my gosh Veenie is so sweet! I have a dog as well but I always worry about getting another puppy because I don't want her to feel jealous of a new puppy. Silly I know but I just want to make sure she knows she's loved! Can't wait to hear how she does with you! :)
ReplyDeleteHAH Veenie is giving the General some side eye in that last pic!
ReplyDeleteAwww!! Such a sweet post and those are some very lucky puppers!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this post I got really excited because I thought you were announcing a new sibling for Veenie and Gee!
ReplyDeleteI love the story of how you got your pups. They are so precious!
ReplyDeleteHappy Adoption Anniversary! March 17 is Gus's 7th birthday, so he agrees that March is for puppies.
ReplyDeleteAwww so cute! I'm about to take my lunch break so I can go home and snuggle my pups!
ReplyDeleteVeenie is too sweet! What kind of dog is she? I love how G's personality has changed! I have a dog named Peyton, whom I affectionately nickname Honey Bee or Bee (short for Sweet Pea, Honey Bee) because she is the sweetest, and because I really hate it when people ask me if she was named after Peyton Manning. (She wasn't).
ReplyDeleteYay happy Adoption Anniversary! Learning about Veenie's previous owners broke my heart too. I'll never understand people who do that. My pup is Chihuahua/ Jack Russell so she's DOUBLE the crazy and high maintenance but those bedtime snuggles and kisses make it all worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG SO adorable!! We adopted all three of ours at different times of the year, but maybe we should pick a month that we can deem their adoption anniversary! Happy anniversary to Veenie and Gee!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO sweet. How fun to find out some info from before you got your paws on Veenie...see what I did there?! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it'll be May for me. I adopted my first dog last May and now I think she needs a little playmate. Did you have any issues getting them used to each other when you introduced Gee into the house?
ReplyDeleteAll puppies...all they time!! These two adorable faces are so lucky to have them and we are lucky to have them as stars of your blog ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have two of the most adorable puppies!!
ReplyDeleteThose puppies are lucky to have such a great mama!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe someone gave her up AFTER buying her..that makes me so sad!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwwww, they are so lucky to have found such a good mama! So glad that you rescue instead of buying. This post gave me warm fuzzies :)
ReplyDeleteThey are my grandpups and I love them too! Can't wait to snuggle with them this weekend! And their mama too!
ReplyDeletecuuuuuuuutest! it's so sad to hear the pre-adoption stories of our furbabies. i get so mad at the prior owners but then i just remember that it's their loss!
ReplyDeleteI love this! That is so cool how you have a little bit of history on Veenie! It breaks my heart someone could just give up their dog like that, but in this case, good thing they did, because now she has an awesome life!
ReplyDeleteI think it's hilarious that Gee likes anyone and anything that isn't Veenie.
ReplyDeleteAnddd now I want to go get Porkchop a brother or a sister lol thank you!

ReplyDeleteWe love this post so much!!! Dogs really do make an empty home whole even if you don't notice the empty part. Love that you adopted them both. Makes us super happy for all of you!
ReplyDeletesqueee puppies!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how you acquired them in March.
I love my sweet pups so much! This story made me smile. I can't believe that people give up such sweet pups to the shelter! My Bandit was adopted once and then those people took him back, too! He is the sweetest little thing!
ReplyDeleteThis is so stinking sweet. You take the best pics of them. I don't know how you do it! We need a double date again!
