Way back, and I do mean wayyyyy back months ago, I took an afternoon trip by myself to visit the Dallas Arboretum. I may have mentioned once or twice or a hundred times, learning the ins and outs of my camera on manual mode is tough, but every day I get so much better. I did take a class when I first got the camera, and that really helped. With that said, you can take all the classes in the world, but with something like photography, you really just need to get out there and practice. And that is just what I did on this beautiful early spring afternoon. Yes, I said Spring, that is how long I've been hoarding these photos on my camera's memory card.
I honestly just want to improve my photography so I can take more pictures of my dogs. Let's be real here...

Before I sign off for the day, I want you guys to meet Emelia from Dream Big and Buy the Shoes! She was kind enough to answer a few questions for me about her blog, her social media loves and her upcoming September wedding (eek!).
Emelia.... if you need a photographer holla at yo girl (jk lol lylas)
Q. Tell us about your blog - When did you start blogging and why? How'd you pick the name?
A. My blog is a lifestyle blog about everything I love from recipes, finding a good deal, a little bit of style, and reaching for your dreams.
I started blogging this past June. I read blogs for a few years and followed along women who inspired me daily. I loved how they poured their hearts out and shared about their lives...it was all so interesting to me. I have always loved to write and thought it would be a great hobby and allow me to creatively express my thoughts on life.
I picked the name after months of a mental debate. I have always loved to "Dream Big"....I think if you want something in life, nothing should ever stop you. No one can take your dreams, and you're never too young or too old to do it. I also LOVE shoes, but that part of my blog name has a dual meaning. You should never wait to go after what you want because tomorrow isn't always promised...so go ahead, and buy the shoes.
Q. What's one thing readers should know before visiting your blog?
A. I love Britney Spears, and tend to talk about her on frequent occasions, I mean, we are besties.
Q. Which form of social media do you use the most?
A. I big pink puffy heart emoji love Instagram the most. My pictures may not always be from the best angle or perfect, but I love sharing a peek of my day with my insta-friends. You can follow me here!
Q. Do you have a favorite engagement photo? When are you getting married?
A. It's hard to choose just one favorite. I wasn't expecting to actually love pictures of myself, because I don't feel that I'm very photogenic...but here it is. It's my favorite because it captures our relationship perfectly, Chuck is forever making me laugh. I become Mrs. Lawrence on September 26, 2015 and couldn't be more excited about it!
Q. Are you nervous, excited or both about (officially) becoming a stepmom?
A. I would say I'm mostly excited about officially becoming Ethan's stepmom. I've been in his life since he was four so it's been a long time coming. We've had a few bumps in the road, but we have an awesome relationship. He's my best bud and I feel so priveleged to offically become his stepmom.
Q. You can only pick one band/singer to listen to for... okay, not forever, but for 1 month. Who would it be?
A. Britney Spears...all day, every day.
Q. What's your favorite holiday to celebrate?
A. Easter! I love it! Ham, hiding eggs, that cute little bunny...it's so much fun.
Q. What's your favorite but completely unhealthy food?
A. Bacon. Again, all day, every day...I wish that could really happen.
Q. Tell us something that's on your wish list right now.
A. Fleetwood Mac concert tickets for their show in Cleveland next February. I LOVE them and can't wait to see them back together again.
Q. Direct us to a favorite post or two you've written:
A. 1// The Gift Guide You Haven't Seen Yet
2// My Angel
3// Baby Update: 10 Years Later
These pictures turned out beautiful! I am so impressed with your focusing techniques. I'm going to go try that with my camera now:) Great to meet Emelia, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kari...checking out your blog now :)
DeleteUgh girl, I feel you! It's so hard working full time and then having a blog just for that reason-- it's nearly impossible to take pictures with natural light!
ReplyDeleteIn a way, it's kind of nice that you posted these photos in the height of December--it's nice to remember that Spring is just around the corner :)
Have a great week!

can you come teach me to use my camera?? please and thank you
ReplyDeleteI can relate about the sun setting. By the time 4:30 rolls around, it's getting dark & photos turn out gross! At least these photos are nice & refreshing. They bring some color & happiness to the dreariness of today.

These are gorgeous! I love the one of the magnolia! I want to take some classes soon! We have a DSLR and I have played around with manual a *little*, but really have no idea what I'm doing!
ReplyDeleteI resort to my iPhone camera too. The 6 plus camera is amazing! Some of the photos I've taken with it look almost as good as my DSLR. Does it take you 20 shots to get one right with the DSLR? All of mine come out so dark and terrible most of the time. I'll stick with the iPhone!
ReplyDeleteyour pictures look amazing. I take a lot of Iphone photo too. I have a 6 plus too.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are beautiful! When I first got my camera I used to love going out by myself to practice. Ain't nothing wrong with it!
ReplyDeleteyour photos look great!! you have such a perfectly lit house for puppy pics ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are amazing! I just got a DSLR and am trying to learn how to use it. I still resort to my iPhone a lot.
ReplyDeleteThose photos are great! That is one goal I have for 2015 - manual mode. Right now, I usually use AV mode because I haven't had the guts to tackle manual.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! I'm still afraid to use manual mode on my camera...
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are gorgeous. I have the same issue with a day job and its hard to get light. I'm not a great photographer and it's hard to find the extra time to practice.
