Hey you guys!! Long time no see! Guess who is here with you this Monday morning?? Yup, it's me, Gee Neyland.
I'm very rarely out of bed this early on a Monday morning, but for you guys, I'm willing to make an exception. You know, this will be my second time guest posting for my mom, so I'd say I'm pretty much a pro by now!
Over the the weekend Mom got us all ready for Christmas time. My Grandmom is all the way in Virginia, so it will be just the three of us this year for Christmas. Well the three of us and of course mom's new boyfriend, Mr. Batman. Mom never ever lets us have people food. She tells us it is because she wants us to live to be 38 years old. But I like Mr. Batman because he slips me pieces of his people food when mom isn't looking. But don't tell her I told you guys that, I'm not trying to burn any bridges here. Mmmmm bacon.
Before mom went shopping for our pet gifts, she downloaded this new app on her iPad from Sam's Club, called Healthy Living Made Simple. You know, she likes to promote healthy living! She used it to inspire what she was going to get us for Christmas.
The app, only available for iPhone and iPad, has an awesome article featuring tips for pet gift giving! I particularly like the tip to wrap the presents loosely, so us pups can get in there and grab our toys as fast as possible! #GimmieThatTennisBall!
So Mom headed to Sam's Club to do her Christmas shopping for us. It felt like she was gone for days weeks months years. She made me promise to close my eyes for this part, so I couldn't see what exactly was wrapped up under the tree this year....
You can see the aisle mom shopped in at Sam's Club, and what she got me and Veenie. I didn't look because I'm a good boy. Mom tells me that every day!
She finally came home (Veenie and I both discussed how we thought she was never coming back) and immediately started cooking. My puppy sister and I are still perplexed by this whole mom in the kitchen thing...
She told us she was working on homemade D-O-G-T-R-E-A-T-S. I had no idea what she was spelling out. One day I'll crack that spelling code, one day...
Based on my expert Beagle nose.... that bowl included:
::: 1/2 cup of natural peanut butter
::: 1 cup of 100% canned pumpkin puree
::: 1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
...Then I watched mom....
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and pull out a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. In that big bowl up there, she stirred the peanut butter and the pumpkin, then added the flour just 1/4 cup at a time. She then rolled the dough out on another piece of parchment paper. (It looked like she had to unwrap the rolling pin because it still had the price tag on it.........) She then cut out Christmas Tree shapes and baked it in the oven for about 8-10 minutes.
(oh and duh, you know mom didn't think this all up herself, she adapted this recipe from here)
And then the greatest thing ever happened....
Christmas came early and we got to eat the treats!!
Oh whoops... I wasn't supposed to tell you that!
Don't tell mom I told you, ok????
