Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

One of my favorite days of the year has finally arrived, the return of NFL football. I have a little tradition in my house to pop champagne to ring in the new season -- feel free to steal my tradition and make it your own! Because, champagne + football.

Each year, the first game of the season features a matchup with the previous year's super bowl champions. Tonight, the defending super bowl champion Seattle Seahawks take on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. I never had a problem with the Packers until I went to the Packers/Cowboys game to celebrate the 6th anniversary of my 21st birthday last year and watched my boys blow a gigantic lead in a matter of minutes. Ever since then, I'm not too fond of the ole discount double check.

Oh yeah, did I mention I'm a Dallas fan, you may have heard of them? America's team?!

What better way to kick off the season than to do a quick rundown on how the league is setup. This post idea was originally a guest post for miss Erin, but I thought it would be a good idea to make some edits and let it resurface today!

"But Sarahhhhhh, it isn't Friday, why are you putting us through sports talk???" Because I said so, that's why. Now go to your room.

For those of you that aren't familiar with how the NFL is setup, let me give you a quick backstory. Just like most team sports, the league is split into two divisions, the AFC and the NFC.

In each division, are subdivisions: East, North South and West. Each subdivision contains 4 teams. Each of those 4 teams plays each other twice each season.

Unless a team is in the same subdivision, they will not face each other twice in a regular season. Many teams will not face each other at all, since there are only 16 regular season games, and 32 total teams in the league.

Take the NFC East for example...

With only 4 teams in each conference, you can see how bitter rivalries begin to develop. Only 6 teams from the AFC and 6 teams from the NFC make the playoffs. All 4 conference champions are guaranteed a spot, plus 2 wild card teams.

The Super Bowl consists of one representative of the NFC and one representative of the AFC. Also known as last year's super bowl teams: Denver (AFC) vs Seattle (NFC). Two teams from the same division would never meet for a Super Bowl. It is impossible.

With all that said, let me make a little prediction. Just for poops and giggles....

There. I said it. It'll be Broncos vs Saints on February 1, 2015. With Denver being the Super Bowl Champions.

Soo that's how the NFL is divided. If you took anything away from this post, it is to go grab some champagne, and learn the hashtag #cowboysnation and use it heavily for the next 17 weeks and you'll be golden.

In other, only slightly less important than the start of the greatest game on the planet, news.... I'll be teaming up with my girl Helene for a group blogging consultation where we will be discussing all the in-and-outs of a flawless blog design. Everything from buttons, to layout tips to the do's and don'ts of building a beautiful blog.

The date is set for Wednesday, October 8th at 8pm. Helene's group consultations fill up very quickly, so make sure you reserve your spot today (or I'll probably cry).

  17. I am definitely a HUGE football fan. I turn into a bit of a psycho...hahaha! I end up losing my voice before the end of the game. I blame it on growing up with an older brother and all boy cousins. I'm a Pittsburgher so of course I love my Steelers, my dad likes the Redskins, and my brother likes the Cowboys...so we all trash talk each other. hahaha!
