Let's talk NASCAR! Today I have the day off and I am going to my very first NASCAR race for work. awWell, technically it is the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 which is part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
What is the difference you didn't ask? Well, I'll tell you.
In NASCAR, the big boys (and girls too now-- Hey Girl Hey Danica) compete in the Sprint Cup Series. These drivers include the people I'm guessing you've heard of: Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jimmie Johnson.
Then, right below the Sprint Cup Series is the Nationwide Series. These are your up and comers. Think minor league baseball vs. major league baseball. And just like in baseball, sometimes the pros come down to the minors to get a little extra practice. That is all I'm going to say on the topic of NASCAR because I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't BS your way through things you know nothing about.
So what is the first thing to go through a woman's mind when she is going to an event she has never been to before, "But what should I wear?" So I've put together three types of outfits that won't make you stick out like a sore thumb. Because well, I'm guessing we all left our checkered flag hot pants and crop top in our other car.
Outfit #1 // Think Country Concert: This is a little on the fancier side, but may be a good choice if you have box seats (or are going for work!)
Outfit #2 // Think Baseball Game:
Outfit #3 // Think 'MURICA!:
Have you ever been to a Nascar race? What did you wear? Any tips for me today? Follow me on Instagram if you want to experience what a day at the racetrack has to offer (because I know that is something we are all dying to do).
#2 stole my ever loving heart!! Cause Jimmie..#duh. Hoping to finally get to my first race soon!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a Nascar race but I have been to Indy car races... from these options I vote #1. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWear something that won't show if you sweat and make sure your shoes are comfortable to walk in. I live in FL and work at one of the tracks so I've been to TONS of races
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a nascar race either but if I were going Id wear #1
ReplyDeleteThe first one is my favorite, especially those sunglasses!
ReplyDelete#JORTS
ReplyDeletei will take outfit number 2 please. that's how it works right? i ask, you give?
ReplyDeleteI went to a Nascar race in St. Louis in July. It was hot as a MF, and it wouldn't have mattered what I had on... I much prefer watching on TV. Watching cars go around the track without the close ups and commentary is pretty boring in my opinion...and I like Nascar!
ReplyDeleteI love all these outfits you put together, #3 being my absolute favorite. But if I ever went to a race I'd probably dress more like #1. I love that out you did a style post for sporting events, and would love to see your suggestions for other sports too!
ReplyDeletePersonally. Outfit two is perfection. I would probably wear that anywhere! - esp that hair style.
ReplyDeleteOutfit #2 is perfect - just switch all the stuff to Dale Jr. gear and I'm set! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy only advice is enjoy it - go with it and don't try to judge too harshly. I've always wanted to go to a race, trying to convince my husband is a different story. I used to watch Nascar in passing years ago I could tell you all the drivers, their sponsors, if they were Ford or Chevy etc - not so much now. I just think fast cars are fun and the people watching would be exquisite! ENJOY YOURSELF!!! I will be honest I miss that the feeder racers are no longer called "Busch League".
I go to every spring and fall race here in VA in Richmond...do not wear cowboy boots as your feet will hurt before it is over. Just a FYI. Go with #2. It is the best for comfort and being cute.
ReplyDeleteAlso...get all the free swag...all the vendors like to give away free stuff..just listen to their little speel about what they have to say and you will have a ton of free hats, shirts, beer cozies and who knows what else!
All I know is that I NEED those America Toms!! NEED. I'll take the shorts too, actually.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer #2, minus the JJ tank. No ma'am. I've been to several NASCAR races over the years and it really is a good time! There's been mention of the people watching and it truly is top notch! Here are some tips... Depending where you're sitting at, you may want to think about renting a headset once you get to the track. When the cars are whizzing by you can't hear the guy announcing and if you don't know who's in which car or what not, it's literally just watching cars speed around a track. Oh and typically, everyone in the grandstand stand up and hold up three fingers on the third lap to honor Dale Earnhardt Sr.
ReplyDeleteHAha. Country concert. Baseball game. 'MURICA. I adore you, have fun!
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah! I absolutely love your outfits like seriously!! Too cute! (Great song) :) Xo
ReplyDeleteI love outfit #1, and the hair on all of them is awesome, but I do have to say I kind of picture you holding the can koozies from #2, too bad you can't fit a dirty martini in them :)
ReplyDeleteNatalia
Loving the hairstyle in Option #1, but I would likely wear Outfit #2, as it's more my style and I already own half of the items...seriously! But then again...a gal shouldn't waste an opportunity to wear cowboy boots! ~Ree
ReplyDeleteI freaking love NASCAR. I guess in Texas this doesn't matter but up here you need layers, it gets cold at night. And all your outfits need a cooler, because the best part about NASCAR is the ability to bring your own beer :)
ReplyDeleteSo fun! You're going to Tx Motor Speedway I presume? I lived RIGHT ACROSS the street from the speedway! You're going to have so much fun, I hope you have great weather! xo
ReplyDeleteI'm going to message you the next time I need to figure out what to wear to a game of some sort. We went to a basketball game recently and I stood in my closet panicking for way too long.
ReplyDeleteThank you for WE DEM BOYZZZZ!!! I thought I was the only gangsta rap lover around these parts :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun linkup! Thanks for hosting. It just so happens that I'll be going to a NASCAR track next week to watch my husband race (his Christmas pressie from me). Now I know exactly what to wear. ;o)

Sounds like I should have invited you tail gate with us at Texas Motor Speedway this past October when I was there. We had a blast but warning we are a Earnhardt kind of family. Typically only my dad makes it inside to watch the race while the rest of us are wasted and parting in the RV's.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit selections! I love your descriptions, too!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day at the races!
Have fun at the race. I haven't been to one in a long time.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!!! It's totally spot on and the only reason I know this is because my husband works in Nascar and we live in the great Nascar city of Charlotte!! He works on the #31 car but I'm TOTALLY getting that amazing Jimmy Johnson tank!! Great post!! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a Nascar race, but I feel like it would be such a thrill! I love the first and the third outfits. And I'm definitely digging that hair in the last one! I've got to try that.
ReplyDeleteI'm obviously too late for any advice, but I'm still commenting! lol I've only been to one race (so far) in my life & it was a blast. My outfit was jeans, a tee shirt, and a hat. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've I were picking for your 3 suggestions, outfit number 2 would most definitely be the winner!
Did you have fun?
Yes! We go to the night race in Bristol every year since it's less than an hour from our house. I usually wear a #1 or #2 type of outfit, but I'm digging #3 so I think that's what I'll attempt this year! Hope you had fun!
ReplyDeleteahh i love all of these choices. really i would actually wear this. also sorry for sucking and being so late on this.
ReplyDelete(I know, way late on this.) I haven't been to a NASCAR race, but my family has been twice. My brother was this child prodigy NASCAR fan kid and even won he and my parents a free, all-expenses paid trip to the Coca-Cola 600 by answering a trivia question on the radio when he was all of 5 years old. They also took him to a NASCAR race (Daytona 500) to celebrate his high school graduation several years later. All that being said, I can totally appreciate your commentary re: NASCAR. Your outfit choices are comical but definitely on par. Anyway, hope you enjoyed yourself!!!
