Home Sweet Home!
Sort of. When I got to my car after getting of the airplane I found out that my relatively new car would not start. So after waiting until 8pm for a tow truck last night to tow me to the Hyundai dealership, and taking the dart train from downtown to the suburbs of Farmers Branch this morning and then walking from the dart station to the office, I'm currently not in the best of moods. Oh, did I mention Hyundai seems to think it will take DAYS to fix my car? Yay.

Although I've had a rough 18ish hours, Canada sure was good to this American girl! Good food, good times, oddly enough, even good shopping! Even though the flight to Canada from Dallas is as short as a flight to Miami, there are some pretty big differences between the two countries! I almost forgot that their money was different. Luckily, the cashiers gladly accepted my American money!
With one more stamp in the ole passport, and six more days of memories under my slightly expanded belt, it was a great work trip! I want to warn you before you read the rest of this post, I fell off the diet wagon Friday-Sunday. So if you are even remotely hungry, I wouldn't continue to read this post because there are some mouth watering dishes you are about to see.
Let's just say I didn't do the best job of packing. Look at my luggage compared to the guy I was traveling with... Oopsies! But for real, you never know what you may need so better to be safe is how I always see it.

Like I posted on Friday, I underestimated the Toronto weather. That first night in town country, I was dressed all adorable and junk. Well, let me tell you, that fell by the wayside faster than you can say hockey puck. I got smarter and traded my now dirty salt covered Sam Edleman boots in for my 10 year old Ugg boots that normally a restricted for home use only and dinner in a de-icing scalding hot bathtub.
The first day of the boat show setup we had to walk through slush and snow to get to the conference center. If you will recall from Friday, I promptly received frostbite (not really) from my Adidas hole filled tennis shoes.
After a full day of heavy lifting (again, not really) we headed out to eat dinner, and by eat dinner I mean drink dinner.
Ok, so it was up until this point that I was a healthy eating winner. I made the right choices, got dressing on the side, asked them to hold mayo on sandwiches, subbed veggies for the fries.... like I said up until this point. Starting on Friday night all that went out the window, and you'll see why....
At each meal we went out to over the weekend, we did our best to share the dishes we ordered with the whole table, so we could all try something different.
I do not eat Curry, for reasons I'm assuming are obvious as to why people don't eat curry. But I thought this sign was still cute.
But then there was my favorite meal.... oh my goodness my favorite meal. The meal of all meals took place after the boat show on Sunday. I was told not to eat lunch, and I can understand why. I ate enough to kill a large elephant. After the show ended, we packed up and headed out for some Korean BBQ!
Thank the good lord for these two, because I had no idea what in the world was going on at this place, and they just took charge and started grillin!
And then after dinner we ran into a line of about 200 people who didn't have any pants on, and I couldn't help but feel a little jealous wishing I didn't have any pants on because I. WAS. STUFFED.
Can you see them? Yeah, no pants.
Well as I go feel sorry for myself and my car troubles the rest of this day, go wish my girl Helene a happy 6th anniversary of her 21st birthday :)

Looks like a fun trip! Traveling is a totally valid excuse to ditch your diet for a weekend!
ReplyDeletei didn't know you didn't eat curry?! omg do i have to drag you somewhere so you HAVE to eat curry. and i think you had to eat to keep warm, it's only right. sorry for all the car troubles. our damn twin hyundai (ps my low tire light has been on for like a month now.)
ReplyDeleteI have looked at that picture of the burger for a few minutes now and cannot figure out what is involved on every layer. I'm seeing onion rings is that a waffle or fried chicken? I'm intrigued.... :-) Looks like a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteI saw your tweets last night and felt terrible... what a mess :( But that burger with onion rings on top? Please pass that my way, stat!
ReplyDeletePerrier? Swank!
ReplyDeleteThat Korean BBQ place looks unreal!
Aaaaand now I'm starving. Thanks a bunch! ;) But really, I am glad that you had a good time.. even if your healthy eating failed!

That looks like such a fun work trip!! And the food, yummmm!! What kind of Hyundai do you have, my car is only 6 months old and does that from time to time, bummer hope they can fix it faster for you!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great trip. Hope you get your car back soon.
ReplyDeleteDo you know why they had no pants on?
ReplyDeleteThat burger is seriously amazing looking! I had a Hyundai for like 7 years and was so glad to get rid of it. Hope they can fix it sooner. What is with the no pants?!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me feel like I went to Canada haha thank you for all the wonderful pictures

Looks like you had a good trip! I'm jealous how much you get to travel for your job! I need to find me one of those! =) Glad you didn't freeze!!
ReplyDeleteYum! Looks like you had a good (and delicious) time in Canada! Sorry about your car and hope everything gets fixed up quickly! :)
ReplyDeleteI always overpack too no matter how much I tell myself I'll stop doing it... I always do. It's always better to be prepared.
ReplyDeleteAnd Korean BBQ.. never had it but it looks yummy!
The no pants thing was for the No pants Subway ride, it is an annual event, they ride the subway and then go for a drink, ( started in 2002 in UK and now it is in 60 locations). I love that you had steam whistle and a ceasar. You probably did not get to the Steam whistle brewery but if you ever get back to Toronto you have to go, Looks like the trip ended up alright. Come back soon
ReplyDeleteOh man, we go to Korean BBQ so much here. You will fit in just fine in California, just sayin' :)
ReplyDeleteI want your job. How FUN!
ReplyDeleteThe Korean bbq looks so good, I am starving now! No pants in that cold, they must be some brave people walking around!
ReplyDeleteI would say that is a bit of over packing haha. The Korean BBQ looks amazing! A liquid dinner is always a good idea after freezing your toes off.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a good time in Canada. You never know with those Canucks! :-)
ReplyDeleteAlso, that totally sucks about your car. I hope it's as good as new very soon!
Must absolutely know where you bought that striped bag. Please and thank you!

Forever 21 of all places!!! Super cheap!
DeleteYou needed those extra calories so you wouldn't freeze to death. Obviously.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad the food, the people and the overall experience was good to you! The weather is just plain cold in most places here in Canada!
ReplyDeleteThat huuuuuge burger looked stinkin' amazing. I bet the Korean BBQ was ridiculous. I would love to try something like that one day.
Land that I looooooove!!! Sorry..just had to finish the other part of that verse you started there ;) I loved when I visited Toronto a few years ago. It's just so clean..and everyone is sooooo nice!
ReplyDeleteNow I need to try Korean BBQ, it looked amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou have the worst luck with cars! Saturday was No Pants Day. Here we ride the subways sans pants. I do not partake. I'm pro no-pants but preferably at home. Korean BBQ looks amazing! Like fondue but with grills!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having a fun time, even though it started off kind of rocky. :]
ReplyDeleteI wonder why those guys didn't have any pants...
I was a healthy eating winner for about 2 weeks thanks to myfitnesspal. I substituted Greek yogurt for just about everything and lied to myself that it tasted the same as buttermilk ranch. Now only if I could just lie to myself again and put the sour cream, ranch and mayo away. :/ I really just need to sign up for another 5k to motivate myself.

Looks like a great trip! Canada is on my travel bucket list, and as I'm living in Chicago right now I really don't have any excuses for not having been. Also, that food looks delicious. Diets are way overrated anyway.

I ALWAYS overpack, and my boyfriend makes fun of me for it. But I refuse to see the day that I don't have the right outfit for whatever that day brings.
ReplyDeleteThat Korean BBQ place looks fantastic! And while I'm sure you wanted to jump right in and take off your pants, I think the additional frostbite you might have received would have definitely had you thinking otherwise. :) Oh, and about the packing ... a girl's got to have options!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I love Toronto! I was there this summer and also stayed by Yonge-Dundas Square. We also went to Steam Whistle brewery!

Canada is one of my favorite countries - everyone is so nice! Omg and I love me some Korean BBQ - gah, it is insanely delicious.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip. I'm with you on cars breaking down. Mine's been out of commission since Sunday. And they don't think they can get it back to me until Monday :(.
ReplyDeleteGirl, sometimes you just have to treat yourself!!
ReplyDeleteYay Canada! Glad you had a great trip!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly Food Porn!! I'm starving now...
ReplyDeleteKorean Grill House is so good!!! Glad you enjoyed Canada :)
ReplyDeleteTORONTO IS MY HOME.. let me not get started on Korean grill ... hmm I just did a post on it...!! it looks like you had a blast..!!!
ReplyDelete_Bright
I have never been to Canada, but damn it looks cold just from the pics!! Glad you had a fun time, and it's ok you fell off the diet wagon. That's what happens when you go outta town ;)
ReplyDeletelooks like you had a great and cold time! It is ok to have a cheat weekend now and then. I am sure you will bounce back soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen work lets you drink dinner, it's a good trip.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time in Canada, sorry about your car tho. Just wondering where in Canada is this? I love traveling when the doctor clears me. I would only be able to go to Vancouver or Toronto on my works bill. I would love to see other places on my own.
ReplyDeleteBoo on you for never getting a chance to blate with Kathy and I!
ReplyDeleteThe place right beside that Korean BBQ place is one of my favourite places to eat in Toronto. The food is so cheap, the portions are huge and it tastes so good! It's run by the same people who run the Korean BBQ.
Ah, Toronto. I love thee.
I'm terrible about overpacking. I always say I'll do a better job and then 2 hours later I'm at the airport with an overweight bag!! I so want to go to Canada and get another stamp on my passport :) Sorry to hear about the car stuff too... my husband's hyundai has been in the shop for a week and a half and we're finalllllly getting it back today!!!

ReplyDeleteGlad you had a blast here in Toronto! Korean Grill House is one of my favourites. Next time you're here, you should definitely try Fin Izakaya http://www.finizakaya.com/ and go on a free tour here: http://www.steamwhistle.ca/ :)
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you came to my city! I love all the comments about Canada it's nice to see how other perceive us. You're lucky you came down last weekend when we had our "warm" weather, haha. You should have stopped by the CN Tower. Best view of the city! Glad you had a great time :)

Did you happen to stay at or near the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre? I always stay there for work and I always see the view in your 6th photo. I love going there for amazing food and shopping. Looks like you had fun....despite the cold.
