Things no one has ever said about me:
"Man, Sarah sure is hard to shop for."
"I wish Sarah would send us her Christmas List."
"Do you think Sarah would be ok with cash for Christmas?"
I'm notoriously easy to shop for. Place a sweaty wad of cold hard cash in a card and I'll be pleased as punch. But not everyone is as easy as I am. You can't hand your mother a wad of cash for Christmas, that would just be weird. My mom has been known to ask for weird stuff for Christmas, like socks. I'm not getting you socks, that is just absurd. Get your own socks.
That's like opening a present on Christmas morning and out pops a can of shaving cream. Um, I realize I'll eventually need shaving cream, but I could've just purchased this myself.
Things Never to give a woman for Christmas, even if they mention needing it...
A Vacuum
Socks
Febreeze
Weight Watchers Cookbook
Aluminum Foil
Gum
A Gift You Gave Her Last Year
Play Station 3
Nothing
Gifts women really love are those that were thoughtful. I wish more men would ask themselves this question, "Is it possible to acquire this gift on December 24th, and have it wrapped and under the tree by December 24th?"
If the answer is yes, give that gift to a dude. If the answer was no, then meet Datevitation.
Datevitation.com is the web's first online platform to create a custom love coupon book. You pick the dates, add an actual picture of your face and can customize the text to your liking. Their date idea library contains over 500 ideas from skydiving to stargazing. Once you are done customizing the text in your book, Datevitation will print it out and ship it to you. Included with the book is a "surprise" envelope! You don't even need wrapping paper. But just because you don't need wrapping paper, doesn't mean you shouldn't spruce up a gift for the woman who birthed you. Mom's like glitter too.

Although you may have seen Datevitation used on other blogs to make romantic date ideas, I wanted to use it to make a gift for my mom, because I'm not giving this woman socks. She will be visiting me for my birthday in December, so I picked date ideas she can redeem when she visits, like a mani/pedi session! Plus she's always begging me to make her mix tapes (yes, still going to call it that) so I used that as a coupon too!
Oh, and then General and Venus asked if they could make a page in the book for their grand mom. I said yes, and this is what they came up with. Jerks.
Books normally start at just $25 so it makes for a thoughtful yet economical gift. But as a special treat for my followers, you can use the code ‘VENUSMARS10’ for $10 off your purchase plus free shipping (total value of $13.50) That means you can get your loved one a one-of-a-kind gift for Christmas starting at just $15! The order cut-off date for guaranteed delivery by Christmas is December 13 so make sure to get your order in before then!
This is a really good idea! lol I feel like I could get pretty creative with this

Yes I am a nerd, I actually asked for a vacuum for Christmas!! I have only seen the Datevitations for romantic gifts so glad to see it used for your Mom. She will love it.
ReplyDeleteHa. Sam's first Christmas gift to me was socks...but it was kind of an inside joke between us so I guess that makes it slightly more thoughtful. x
ReplyDeletegreat idea! x
ReplyDeleteuhhh sooo pretty. i did give michael a datevitation and he loved it!
ReplyDeleteLove that you did this for your mom! I like the spin on not doing a romantic one. ALSO - I am dying over the font you used in the first photo for "datevitation." As in my Christmas cards will look like shit if you don't tell me what it is. They thank you in advance.
ReplyDeleteI am a photographer in Fort Worth and I always tell people how long has it been since your mom had a picture of all her kids together?? best..gift.. ever..
ReplyDeleteUm.. I actually like getting socks for gifts. In fact I asked for new wool socks and new hiking socks. Those things are like 10$ a pair! Oh and thigh high socks. Maybe I'm just a freak.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I got a pair of cashmere socks last year for Christmas (along with a book) and I didn't complain... just sayin'
ReplyDeleteI'm the weirdo who likes socks too, not normal socks, fancy slipper socks, or with cute patterns. I don't want to have to buy my own cute socks.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was pretty funny. My husband's mom's favorite gift was a vacuum. She doesn't like jewelry. Me on the other hand.. I love all girly things. I always give everyone a pair of socks, but they are the super fuzzy ones.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many to pick from... I like the doggy park or the park.
What a cute idea!! However, I love getting socks... is that weird?
ReplyDeleteThe husband just asked last night what I wanted. He then told me to just pick something and use his card. Men.
ReplyDeletesocks are totally on my real life christmas list. ha. this datevitation is a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt definitely gives me gum every year. She gives me other things too though, so it makes up for it. :]
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about Datevitation being a good gift for moms. :) My boyfriend's dad gives the strangest gifts, and he usually gives us all the same thing. Last year he forgot the gifts and then distributed them around February. We all got a copy of Dick Cheny's autobiography. Hmmm. It's the thought that counts....right?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of using it for someone who is from out of town- as a way to use their time while they are in town. Cool thought!

Um, how would a Play Station 3 not be an awesome gift? I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteIt's so not fair - I'm such an easy person to shop for (I like anything shiny and new!), but everyone in my family is SO HARD TO GET PRESENTS FOR. Where is the equality in this universe.
ReplyDeleteI've been gifted socks multiple times by an aunt of mine, and this year she got me scottie dog potholders(??) and winter gloves for my birthday.. IN AUGUST! I've also been the recipient of a Love Your Body book for 7th graders.. too bad it was my 21st birthday! haha oh well
ReplyDeleteI'd be ok with socks, but I'm just happy when someone likes me enough to give me things that they could paint a rock and give it to me & I'd be happy. I'm simple lol. But I do love these coupon books, they're such a great idea!

Ooo! This would be a good little stocking stuffer! :) When I was a kid we didn't have a lot of money and we would get stuff like underwear for Christmas... but I give my parents credit for at least making them COOL underwear - one year I got Little Mermaid. I wore that mo'fo's until they gave me muffin top because I loved them so much. haha
ReplyDeleteJust read your guest post over at the daily Tay--hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteGosh , I hate cookbooks . Whenever I get one in gift , I want to throw it.
ReplyDeleteI like the Hot air balloon ride! It's a very cute idea!!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO super cute. I love this idea!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteMeet @ the Barre
I agree with that list! (Unless she specifically asks for a PS3 or a WW cookbook) If you don't know what to give someone for christmas, a mall gift card would be just fine! Oh, well jewelry always works for women, too!
ReplyDeletePS- What an adorable gift idea!
Every single year my mom asks for socks! A few years back she actually yelled at us "WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GET ME SOME SOCKS!?". I don't think anyone did....
ReplyDeleteI would love to give this book to my mom or husband. My mom loves pedi's and that is a really fun gift for her. And for my husband, I love the cooking class together or a getaway.

Tour a winery? I'm down for that as a date!
ReplyDeleteThis pretty much an awesome gift idea, which has been made even more epic with your discount!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWith my 1st anniversary exactly (as of today!) one month away, this is a GREAT idea for a gift. I hear traditional gifts for the 1st anniversary are supposed to be paper-themed, so I've been looking for inspiration and this is just what I needed. I'll definitely be checking out the website in hopes of finding the perfect item to purchase for my husband. Of course, winning a set would be nice too. ;)
