I Must Have This Or I'll Die.

My middle name is impulse. Sarah Impulse Webb. If I got a monogrammed necklace, it would need to say SIW. I cannot physically stop myself. Once I find out something exists, all of a sudden I am certain that I will drop dead within minutes if I am not the proud owner of said shiny new object.

My most recent I must have this or I'll just die purchase was the pretty new camera I can't figure how to work. I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and see how some of these impulse, I must have this or I'll die, purchases are doing today.

1. A New Puppy. Her name is Venus. - I don't need a clean apartment or sleep. Overrated.

2. Nintendo Wii + Wii Fit Bundle - Haven't used it since I stepped on the Wii Fit scale and it screamed "ouch!" (I'm not kidding) Oh, and don't forget Mario Kart that was gifted to me.

3. These Frends Headphones- My friends Magen and Megan helped me scour the streets of NYC until these babies were mine. $200 and two days later, I was content. In my defense, I still use these several times per week and love them. But, when I saw some gold plated oversized headphones at Forever 21 for $19.95 a few days ago, I was less than amused.

4. iPad- This may sound crazy but I never use this thing. I have two computers and an iphone, where is the need for an iPad? It was all I could think about for 16 hours, but now I really should sell it. Any takers? Or anyone want to tell me what they use their iPad for?? Maybe I'm not using it correctly?

5. Planners- This may not seem like a big deal, but when you own as many planners as I do, it really adds up. I use a planner for a couple of months, then get the itch for a new planner. Lord help me. It would be really nice to not be addicted to all of the paper goods Kate Spade makes. Dear Kate, broke from your paper, please stop producing... love, Sarah.

6. New Apartments in new cities. I'm looking at you Richmond, Knoxville, Lexington, Knoxville again, Knoxville again, Dallas, Dallas again. I'm pretty sure you are supposed to find a place, hunker down and not move every year. Ah well, I like change.... AND I GOTTA HAVE IT OR I'LL DIE!!
7. And for my next trick.... If I don't get cowboy boots by Friday night at 7:30pm (Miranda Lambert concert, my favorite human on the planet) I will just die. I will be stopping at Cavender's on the way home if anyone needs me.

For the record, I will not be getting the boots pictured below, they were $1200 Frye boots Magen and I found in Nashville.... they sure are prettyyyy though if I ever want to channel my inner Taylor Swift!

Is there anyone else like me? What did you have to have or you would just die?? TWITTER FACEBOOK Pinterest Instagram Image Map

  1. Hahah, I do this A LOT. But, I've learned over the years to get my bigger purchases from Amazon because they have a nice return period...no questions asked. I can usually tell within 30 days if I'm going to keep using something or not.

  2. you need to go to the cowboy boots place on harry hines to get some boots!! and why was I not invited to this concert?! jk.

    not really.

    1. I agree on the concert. I may be the only black girl who loves her some Miranda Lambert.

Oh and I got my boots from Cavender's for $150!

  4. This is exactly why I haven't gotten an iPad! I mean, it looks like a fun toy, but what can it do that my phone and computer can't?? And I do the same thing with every planner I've ever bought. They're so pretty, so of course I'll use them, right?? No. Big fat NO. But too bad-- I just bought a new one for 2014...

  5. Thanks for including my arm in that pic!!!!

  6. I love new planners. They give me the false illusion that this year will be different and I can be organized...one can dream.

  7. So which Richmond are we talking about here sister? And cowboy boots....you can never spend to much on them and when it comes to wearing to them to see my lady Miranda...it is okay! Jealous of that one!

  8. Cavenders is THE best place for boots. I dropped hundreds of dollars on a pair there and don't regret it one bit. They are beautiful.

Going to see Miranda & Dierks in Austin at the end of the month - can't wait! Saw Miranda open for George Strait at the beginning of the summer and a few songs just wasn't enough for me. Need.more.Miranda.

  9. I could go on and on about what I need and then don't use when I have it. Most recently I needed a new desk and now that I have one I hate it, why because it's to short and I was in to much of a hurry to wait on a desk that would really be suitable.

  10. I am the same way. Obsess over items for days until the card is swiped. And I wonder where my money goes.
My weaknesses are $5 DVDs or DVDs in general.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I move every year too, don't feel bad! Planners, ugh. I always find ones I love, I can't help myself! I'm stuck on my Whitney English though, it's so perfect for me!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I did the same thing with a fancy digital camera. Now I too scared to bring it most places. Also, gave my iPad to my sister on a permanent loan until I figure out what to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just use Google Calendar with your gmail, you'll never miss your planners again. You clearly like technology, so use it:)

I'm such an impulse-buyer too, it's terrible. Luckily, since moving to Germany I have no money to do tehse sorts of things and wonder how I'd ever move these times home, so it has helped me out. Oh, and sell your iPad. I just did on eBay a couple months ago and have never missed it (although I did buy a Kindle to replace it).

  14. I'm totally the same way about a lot of stuff, especially planners. And as for the headphones...the ones you got are so much prettier and will last you so much longer!

    ReplyDelete
  15. THIS IS ME. I impulse buy all the time but don't usually regret it. There's been too many times when I didn't buy the thing I fell in love with and then regretted it. I should be more stingy, but I'm not. I would love to move every year! I think that's fun and adventurous. I would totally do it in a heartbeat, but the whole job thing freaks me out!

  16. this is the story of my life... i have recently been able to prevent myself from buying a new laptop (i have a working macbook and a huge HP desktop... that i bought because i couldn't wait for the new imac to come out so I bought the best version of the HP one) and that took a lot out of me.

im also guilty of the Wii, just about every article of clothing I own, and you should have seen me while planning/making decorations for last weekends bridal shower and bachelorette party. i had to have EVERYTHING! now im regretting it because noone else felt the need to have EVERYTHING i bought! hahah

    ReplyDelete
  17. I impulse buy all the time- clothing. I have more clothing than I'll ever need. If you're looking to get rid of an ipad I could take it off your hands..... xx

  18. This post really opens your eyes. Even though its about your impulses, it still makes me more aware of what I do as well which is a good thing.

    Awarenss is key.

I had the impulse a couple of years ago to get an English Bulldog! $1600 later he is the love of my life! Not a very financially smart decision but it's one that has been totally worth it and I don't regret it.

I go impulse crazy on make-up. I gotta have 50 shades of lipstick, 25 eye shadows, and 30 eyeliners. Or I will seriously die.

Target makes me impulse crazy. I know everybody says that but for me its like times 10000!!

  19. Planners, so help me. When will I learn that I end up using my phone for keeping track of everything? I also have this problem with pens, highlighters, notepads, and notebooks. I do not write near enough to warrant 20+ pens and notebooks stuck in every possible place (desk, car, purse, other purse, you get the idea)!

When my Macbook broke down a few months ago, I purchased an iMac in its place. I now use my iPad when I want to play online but don't want to sit at my desk. I also take my iPad when I travel since I don't have a laptop anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  20. gahhh 100% the same. (including just buying a brand new fancy camera!). i'm awful like that with sneakers too and then i'll wear them a few times and then "i'm over these" and go buy the next pair i have fallen in love with. THREE pairs this summer! and i do it with things i see online, like umm, the GIANT UNICORN RUBBER MASK HEAD THING i bought last week. like, why? what for? I HAD TO HAVE IT and i haven't done a damn thing with it yet.
i feel your pain girl, i feel it.

  21. I'm with you on the moving. I LOVE to move. I get bored so easily. I love paper products so planners, post-its, note cards, it's a sickness. I have and hoarde post its. Guess who practically never uses them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I impulse buy clothes. I may or may not have bought a bunch of random clearance tops last night while waiting for my haircut. In my defense- they shouldn't have given me all that spare time to browse the mall!

P.S. I'll totally buy your ipad off you. Super serious

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's like you reach in and just know me. I know that feeling. I especially feel that way when I actually have zero money, which is what is happening now. Then I just have to cut myself off of all the nice things I see. And then once a year I go CRAZY and buy the nice thing that I want.

Currently? Drooling over the idea of a new computer. Preferably a new desktop Mac because as much as I love my Air, I need something to play CD's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I impulse buy wayyyy too much. Tory Burch? Gets me every time. And I also seem to need a new planner every few months, regardless of how many empty days are left in my current one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I lurve my iPad but I think it is because I don't have an iMac. I feel that way about the new iPhone they better be announcing today!! Pre order straight away!

    1. I have an iPad but dont really know what to use it for! what do you use yours for???

      Delete
  26. haha! I don't have the funds to have this problem... well except for jewelry!! If I find a piece of jewelry under a certain price... I MUST HAVE IT!!!! I usually buy it online, undetected by the man of the house!! haha

My mom loves her iPad to look at Pinterest when watching TV. If you have a laptop, though, than I guess you have no real use for the iPad. Unless you like games, otherwise, I'd say sell it to someone who has kids... because my girls have hundreds of (really cool) games and could play on it for hours!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have those same impulse feelings about a lot of stuff. I like to wander around stores for an hour or more and I usually end up with a lot of stuff I don't need in my cart. But, by the time I get to the register, I've usually talked myself out of the stuff I don't really need...and then I stuff it on a random shelf when no one's looking.

    ReplyDelete
  28. We use our Ipad a lot. It's lighter than the laptop, so it's easier to lay in bed and watch Netflix or scroll through Twitter. It's just easier to use! It comes in handy as we both have fantasy football teams, so we are both able to watch how our teams are doing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. BOOOOOOTS. And glitter. ALL IN ONE. Miranda would SO appreciate them on you, but then you'd have to appreciate the credit card bill to come and that's impossible to the tune of $1200.00!

I couldn't buy the iPad because it reminded me of maxi pad and I don't want to be rubbing my fingers on anything that makes me think of female hygiene. But my iPhone and mac make up for it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Right there with you about changing cities. I love change and hate settling. I can see this becoming a problem job wise in my future. Oh well! And about the iPad, there were literally weeks straight that would pass before I would touch that thing. I find I use it more now that school has started again but for blogging I'm all about my MacBook!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just buy the ridiculous jewel encrusted boots. So I can live through you. Because I'd get beat up for wearing them I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dang Forever 21! Always making us feel bad about buying higher-quality stuff. Sigh.

As for the iPad dilemma, I feel ya! I have the whole Apple collection: MacBook (which reminds me - I NEED a MacBook Pro. mine is slowly dying on me), iPad and iPhone. I use my iPad to stream Netflix a lot (it's faster and clearer than on my laptop), and I like it for traveling because it's less bulky than my laptop. (Although remember, I have the old white MacBook from 2008 - if you have a MacBook Pro or Air it's probably not much of a difference haha). I also like my iPad for Candy Crush. (Hangs head in shame.)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh no! Haha! Truth time: I never use my iPad either! I will open it and 10 reminders from the past two weeks go off because it is synced with my phone... oops.

I am in the market for a Wii though. I need one so I can play Just Dance and stream Netflix. I'll buy it from you!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I used to be so bad about impulse buys. Who am I kidding I'm still bad. Now I just look at my bank account and remind myself I can't afford those impulse buys. ha

I use my iPad less than I thought I would but I still use it a good bit. Mainly because i'm one of those nerds who does the second and third screens while watching TV...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yup, planners and notebooks here! OH also Bags... bagsbagsbags.

If you don't want your iPad anymore, I could actually really use one (second year medical student). From what I've seen they are GREAT for studying and we can use them on wards to pull up x-rays, labs, etc!
Unfortunately I can't afford one full price but they do have their uses :) (just definitely not for everyone)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I had to have brand new running shoes, new running pants, bras and shirts.

    I hate working out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love the creativity you bring to your blog! It amazing me that you can come up with these things! I do the same thing = gotta have a Nook, Ipad, Wi, etc - all of which sit unused for the most part. And don't even get me started on my obsession with notebooks and planners!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree about the ipad. The only thing I use it for is to play a game or two or to watch Netflix while I move around the house cleaning.....

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOOOOVE those boots! You need those! And I probably would have splurged on those awesome gold headphones too. Now get back to looking for a new place in Knox!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I totally do the same thing. When I want something, it's all I can think about. Or, if I have a coupon to a clothing store all I can think about is the cute clothes I'm missing out on. I also impulse bought a dog in college :) Best and worst decision I've ever made all rolled into one... And that's saying a lot.

  41. This post spoke to me..because I MUST HAVE THIS OR I WILL DIE is a sickness I, too, suffer from. It's really quite annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  42. must have all of the things all of the time!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. The iPad was definitely that thing for me... never, ever use the damn thing! Also, I don't get the obsession with planners... not your obsession, just the obsession in general... I use my iPhone calendar for everyyyything, it would drive me nuts to have an actual planner!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I got an iPad as a gift and I NEVER use the darn thing. I'm such an impulse person too... I don't ever want to sit and wait for anything in the world. I'm the worst. If Jake could move, we would relocate, seriously.

Glad to know I'm not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  45. We just started the car searching process (like a week ago) and I'm already at the point if I don't get one soon I will just die.

  46. I relate to many items on your list. I have the what do I do with my ipad issue too. I will say that my cowboy boots are my favorite purchase of the year. I love going to concerts now!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm such an impulse buyer too! But, I would definitely recommend some cowboy boots. I bought mine on an impulse buy and haven't regretted it at all!

  52. Ahahaha! I literally LOL'd at this post (and I hate using LOL!)

I am too a horrible impulse buyer however I torture myself immediately after with guilt and the usually need to go get an icecream haha.

ps - Miranda Lambert is my favorite lady on the planet too!

  53. Those boots.. I need them. Those would look so cute for showing horses! Unfortunately I need the price to drop down to $120, then we could talk. Any who.. I am a pretty big impulsive buyer, but luckily my funds don't allow me to go hog wild or anything. Mostly as soon as I finish a book and I know there is another in the series I will have it ordered pronto.

  57. I'm kinda like this, especially at Target. I can spend an hour in there putting things in my cart...then another 30 minutes putting them all back because I changed my mind.

  58. Ah yes, I am fellow queen of impulse buys too. My worse one was a car, in cash, that ended up having lots of problems... booooo.

PS Those boots are awesome (minus the price)!

  59. I'm totally the same! I bought a wii, that was silly. I bought a mini sewing machine.. also silly. I'm so bad with paper products. I can drop a whole heap of dough in one trip to staples.. scrapbooking stores beware! I also have a thing for pretty underwear..... and shoes...

well now i just want to go shopping! good luck with the cowboy boots!

  62. oh how I am the queen of I must have this or I will die. My husband hates it. He has learned the rule of 3. If I ask for it 3 times in 3 months then I REALLY want it. This helps.

ipad use...pretty much only use it in bed at night blog stalking. Its easier to lay down and read with. PLUS there is a blog lovin app.

  63. i needed a pair of black and gold sperrys more than anything. Why does a land locked human need glorified BOAT shoes? I have no idea but I checked on them like a new pet everyday online until they were on my door step. They're cute as shit and sometimes I wear them around the house with my pjs just cuz.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I never use my iPad, either. I have an iMac, MacBook and an iPhone. Why in the world do I need an iPad?

BUT. I have the very first version of the iPad. And if I don't get a new iPad between now and Christmas, I WILL DIE.

    ReplyDelete
  65. on big ticket items I think about and overanalyze the purchase for DAYS! Like my Kindle. I wanted it so badly, but researched the best place to get it and which one to get. Gah I'm a loser, ha! And why would you torture yourself into moving?!

  66. I used to buy and waste planners all the time. Now, I have a simple purse-sized spiral notebook. I also use the note app in my phone and save draft emails in Gmail.

  70. I'm definitely like this whenever I get an email about new shoes that came out at the beginning of the month. And I feel you on the moving cities. Every year since 2004 I have moved into a new apartment or new city. Its getting ridiculous! But the idea of decorating and changing things up keeps me wanting me. Hopefully the current place im in keeps me here for longer than a year!

  71. I try really hard not to impulse buy all the time. One thing that helps is clearing clutter before buying anything. I always rediscover cool stuff that I forgot I had, which I think prevents me from over-buying unnecessary items.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I am horrible at impulse buying! My latest buy: a motorcycle! Now, in my defense, i have always wanted one but never had the money or support. Well, I had the money and some support, so I went for it...and now I'm terrified of it! Here's to overcoming fears (or being the biggest dumbass/impulse shopper ever!)

  73. When my parents got me an iPad for graduation I thought I would never use it, but I actually probably use it more than my computer for reading (blogs, books, buzzfeed..) and watching TV/YouTube because it's easy to transport (aka balance on my mountain of laundry on the way to the washing machine).

I try reeeal hard not to give into impulse buys, but being able to blog about my purchases probably doesn't help me. I think living in Canada and never being eligible for free shipping/returns is probably my biggest deterrent (and frustration).
