Hey girl hey! I missed you guys yesterday. I had the day off work, but I spent it moving and unpacking. I gave myself a week to get out of my old apartment and into my new one. That being said, I didn't hire movers. Hashtag idiot. I came hobbling into work this morning, thankful for a day off from lifting boxes up and down and up and down and up and down.
Well you know the phrase, "You can't have it all"? Here are my pros and cons. For the record. The pros are way more awesomer. Shut up Words with Friends nazis, that is the word I want to use today, so help me God, I'm going to use it.
Pro: My new apartment in gigantic! I just keep saying over and over again, I have so much extra space for activities!! The dogs don't really know that I'm referencing one of the most underrated movies of our generation, Step Brothers. It is almost 1,000 square feet, compared to the 680 I had before. All you home owners may not be impressed by this, but for this little girl, I could not be more excited.
Con: My new commute. Old apartment took me 5 minutes to get to work. New apartment takes me 45 minutes with the crazy traffic. People don't know how to merge, or how to be kind and let people merge. Everyone is cutting each other off, honking, flipping the bird. I was a bit scared to tell you the truth. I have never had a job that required me to drive in a rush hour, I hope I get used to it quickly. Any veteran downtown travelers have any advice for me?
Pro: The view. The other side of my apartment building faces the downtown skyline and I was really bummed that they didn't have anything available with that view. I had succumbed into the fact that my new view was going to be the roof of ugly buildings and a poopy giant hospital. I gotta admit, I was way wrong. I can see fair park, I can see the famous Texas ferris wheel (middle right of this picture), I can see the cotton bowl, and the sunrise from my balcony this morning was breathtaking. I'm not one for getting up early and lounging before work, but to experience this beauty every morning, I may need to become an early riser. The first picture I snapped on the balcony before I left for work, the second is from my bed as I was waking up yesterday morning.
Con: Four flights of stairs. There are two elevators, but my dogs weren't having that. General peed in the elevator. GENERAL peed!!? The good dog peed. If the good one is peeing, I'm screwed. Guess I'll have great legs from these stairs in no time!
Pro: Location, Location, Location. I can walk to a kick butt dog park, I can walk to dinner, I can walk to bars, I can take the train almost anywhere I need to go on the weekend, plus I'm even closer to my friend Helene now, and won't need to do the walk of shame in the morning as I leave her guest bedroom! Actually scratch that last part, let's not rule anything out.
Con: I'm out of cons.
Pro: I'm so excited to decorate this bad boy. I love that two walls are already painted a pretty blue color. I'm going to hang pictures and whip out some Pinterest projects. I love this time right when you move in when you can make statements like that, even though they will probably never get done. I snapped a few pictures of the new place so far. There is a built in desk which makes my Social&Chic heart skip around with excitement. And the kitchen, well, it is a kitchen. Great microwave.
Your new place sounds great and those pics of your view are so pretty! Maybe not what you had hoped for but they're pretty dang great! Hope you get those boxes unpacked quickly... moving suuuucks, but once you're done you'll be so happy!!
ReplyDeleteLove the views! Congrats on the new place....and I think its only necessary to incorporate a SB quote in everyday life.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of your new place! 1000 square feet is huge! Apartments and condos in Toronto are just like NYC: expensive and tiny. I'm moving in two weeks to a bigger place, but it's only 460 sq feet! And it costs way too much. Maybe I need to move cities..
ReplyDeleteUm...I LOVE YOUR NEW PLACE! Can I come live with you? :)
ReplyDeleteI love that view! Maybe will practice you can stop elevator peeing!
ReplyDeleteshannon likey.
ReplyDeletebut seriously. LOVE IT. it all looks so fancy!
Congrats on the new place!!! Would love to live in a loft but with 200lbs of dogs its probably not a smart idea. So jealous enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!! Can't wait to come over and see the view and play!!! Seriously, I'm pumped. Inviting myself over already.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It looks like a great new space.
ReplyDeleteStepbrothers is by far one of the best movies ever made and I will quote war you on it all day long.
ReplyDeleteGet your couch moved in there so I can come see you and we can play with night vision goggles and my sweet sword with Randy Jackson's autograph on it.
I always forget how much moving sucks, and I lived in an apartment with three flights of stairs, you'll get used to it! I always say I'm going to decorate but end up failing miserably. I didn't hang a single picture in my last apartment.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! Congrats on the new space! Once again..your dog is crackin me up!
ReplyDeleteI'm moving in about two months and i'm dreading it already! Unpacking is just the worst to me!
ReplyDeleteLove the hardwoods! And that kitchen looks super modern. Hey, I was thrilled when I finally got up to 1k on the square footage...and then I dropped down to 400....but now I'm up again. Aaahh the commute. I drive about 30 minutes with traffic and 45-1hr if it's raining or an accident. I drink water on the way there so the pro is that I'm helping my water consumption. I have nothing else to do. Glad there are more pros then cons. But why can't our lives just be 100% pro??
ReplyDeleteI commute too and it sucks, sorry to tell ya! But your place looks so nice!!! Best of luck with it.
ReplyDeletei am in love with you new place! and that increase in square footage is HUGE. i am moving to a new condo in oct. and am not looking forward to the hauling of things. luckily i only have one set of stairs though!
ReplyDeleteLove the apartment! :) Views are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness your place is so nice! I'm kinda in the middle of moving right now too - SUCH A PAIN. At least your new place is amazing!
ReplyDelete<3, Charlotte
looks like a badass place!! 1,000 sq feet is giant, I think mine is about 500!! I love love love your view.
ReplyDeleteYour new place looks great - and FWIW is bigger than my house.
ReplyDeleteum, hi, can i move in with you? ktnx.
ReplyDeletep.s. your rent is probably half the price mine will be when i finally decide to move out, so i hate you on that note.
congrats on the new place - it looks awesome! i feel like my dogs would pee in the elevator everyday too. you'll have buns of steel in no time from all those steps!

Yay!! Congrats on the move! I'll see if I can help you out with some traffic info since we work in the same area.
ReplyDeleteLooks so great! Can't wait to come over. Yes I creepily just invited myself to your house via blog comment. No shame.
ReplyDeleteYay for more room!! From 680 to 1000 sq ft def sounds like more room for activities!
ReplyDeleteI moved this weekend too! Holy hell, I'm exhausted. But it's so exciting at the same time, right? Like a fresh start!
ReplyDeleteCommuting sucks. Phone calls and podcasts will save your sanity. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe've talked about moving up to the Dallas area and no I'm not so hesitant. Your place is awesome! "We could do aerobics in here! So many activities!"
ReplyDeleteWow, what an awesome new apartment! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteYour view is gorgeous! Are you closer to TN because that's what I care about?? If not, at least the General approves! I love it! Moving sucks and is stressful but decorating a new place is mucho fun!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying the new place!
ReplyDeleteomg i love it!! i'm going through the do i move or do i stay debate with my apartment right now... but i'd definitely hire movers. i learned that lesson a few years ago, haha!
ReplyDeleteI am a little confused on how I wasn't following you until today...I saw your guest post on Back East Blonde and I was like "oh, I know that dog park" and then I was like, WAIT! Another Dally blogger? So I popped on over and sure enough, you've got a kickass place in Dallas. Can't wait to see what else you're up to! Happy Tuesday!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your apartment is GORGEOUS- you have no idea how badly I would kill for an apartment in the city! So beautiful. And yikes on having no movers! We didn't either and had 3 flights of stairs with no elevators! I'd like to say it was horrible for me, but let's face it, G and his help did most of the work as I sat upstairs "unpacking"...Congratulations on your new place- I can't wait to see all of the personal touches you'll add!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new place!! I am so thrilled for your extra 300+sq feet! I know how ya feel!
ReplyDeleteYayya congrats!! Can't wait to see what you do with it. And that view does make up for a few of those cons.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! The pros def outweigh the cons :)
ReplyDeleteYour new place is gorgeous? What city do you live in?

I moved myself too. Three flights of stairs. Box by box. Couldn't move for a few days.
ReplyDeleteCute place! I am moving next month and HAVE to have movers! I am a wimp.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Awesome place, it's huge!
ReplyDeletethat looks fantastic! congratulations!! ps, 1,000 is way bigger than the place I lived in last...with 2 other people. We're use to small places in CA.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new place!! I hope I can find a place that nice when it's time for me to go looking!! :)
ReplyDeleteGorg apt! Mazel!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new place, heck yes....more room for activities!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe commute you will get used to. I've started making a 30 minute drive every day vs 10-35 depending upon what store I was working at. But this time it's half highway....people suck at merging.
Whoa this place looks HUGE anddd super nice! congrats!
ReplyDeleteGreat view! I could wake up to that everyday
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new place:) Looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteAhh congrats!!! :) I love the picture of your view, it's so great!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you are all moved into the new place. Sad you aren't nearby, it's a good thing I adore downtown Dallas!
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome! Super stoked for you. And just the slightest bit jealous.
ReplyDelete"Great Microwave" pahaha - we don't even have one in my Germany apartment because Germans are weird. It makes for no fun with leftovers.
ReplyDeleteAwesome new pad! You're right -- that view is fab. I say pop open a bottle and enjoy every single sunset!
